Degree College, Tekkali is the first Degree College in Tekkali Revenue Division stated in government sector in 1971 with B.A. and B.Com. courses and B.Sc. in 1975 in Canadian Baptist Bungalow in 19.2 acres. Government Degree College, Tekkali is the first Degree College in Tekkali Revenue Division under Government sector in 1971 with B.A. and B.Com. sections. B.Sc. MPC and ZBC (12 seats each) were started in 1975 in Canadian Baptist Bunglow. Another two sections were started in English Medium in B.A. & B.Com. for Oriya linguistic minorities. 20 acres of land was acquired through a pacca sale deed for the establishment of the college by Tekkali Division Education Society. One building was constructed in 1986 with Rs.20 Lakhs of Andhra Pradesh Govt. Funds. Later in 2010, another building was constructed with Rs.10 lakhs of CPDC funds. Rashtriya Utchitya Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) has granted an amount of Rs 140 Lakhs for new construction and renovation and Rs 60 Lakhs for equipment in 2015. Government Degree College, Tekkali has a symbol consisting of POORNAKUMBH with a SUN RAY. The sun is the life giving force. The water provides sustenance to life. The blooming lotus flower without being touched by the dirt of water symbolizes all pervading knowledge and enlightenment dispelling ignorance. The Poornakumbh placed on the blooming lotus is a harbinger of peace, prosperity and happiness. The College was established to cater the educational needs of the rural students. The college has permanent affiliation for B.A. and B.Com and temporary affiliation for B.Sc from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. Later the college affiliation has changed to Dr.B.R.Ambedkar University, Srikakulam. The College has 2(f) and 12(b) UGC recognition. The college has undergone three cycles of NAAC Accreditation process and was accredited with “B” grade. The institution offers 10 Under-Graduate programmes to impart knowledge and certificate courses to enhance the skills and promote employability. Government of Andhra Pradesh has taken the initiation to implement New Education Policy at all levels of education. In line with this, the college adapts NEP emphasizing on multidisciplinary, academic flexibility, holistic learning and Indian Culture and History through learner-centric curricular and co-curricular activities.
